While there’s no current method to prevent type 1 diabetes, there are some ways that you can live well with this disease. Knowing what you can do in terms of nutrition will be the biggest help for managing diabetes. With your diet, you want to be sure to monitor your carbohydrates, which include fruits, dairy products, cakes/cookies, etc. Although fruit and dairy products are typically seen as healthy, the carbohydrates are difficult to metabolize for someone with diabetes. You should make your goal to have 30 grams of carbohydrates per meal. Pay close attention to the food labels. You should also only eat about 15 carbohydrates when you have snacks throughout the day.
